Southern Railway Adds Coaches and Announces Tambaram-Podanur Special Train
Southern Railway is adding more coaches to two trains that travel to Rameswaram.
This is being done because more passengers want to use these services.
The Mangaluru Central-Rameswaram train will get two extra AC Three-Tier coaches.
The Tambaram-Rameswaram train will get three additional coaches of different types.
These changes will stay in place permanently.
Railway officials will also run one special train from Tambaram to Podanur on September 25, 2026.
That train will leave at night and arrive the next morning.
Unlike the added coaches, this special train will run only once.
Mangaluru Central-Rameswaram Express will permanently receive two additional AC Three-Tier coaches.
Tambaram-Rameswaram Express will permanently add one AC Two-Tier, one AC Three-Tier and one Sleeper Class coach.
The Mangaluru-Rameswaram additions begin on October 3 and 4, 2026, depending on direction.
The Tambaram-Rameswaram additions begin on October 1 and 2, 2026, depending on direction.
A one-way Tambaram-Podanur special will run on September 25, 2026, departing at 11 p.m.
