MahaMetro Proposes ₹14,520-Crore Light Metro Project Across Nashik
Nashik may get a new Light Metro system.
MahaMetro has suggested building it in two phases.
Unlike the earlier Metro Neo idea, this metro would run on conventional railway tracks.
The first phase would build two routes across about 35 kilometres.
One route would connect Gangapur Village to Nashik Road Railway Station.
Another would connect Mumbai Naka to Pathardi Phata.
A later phase would connect Ambad, the city and Nashik Airport.
The proposal was prepared after a survey found that Nashik’s future passenger demand would need a higher-capacity system.
MahaMetro has proposed a ₹14,520-crore Light Metro system for Nashik under the city’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan.
The system would use conventional railway tracks and replace the earlier rubber-tyred Metro Neo proposal.
Phase I would cover 35 km across two corridors at an estimated cost of ₹8,770 crore.
The first corridor would connect Gangapur Village with Nashik Road Railway Station by 2031, while the second would link Mumbai Naka and Pathardi Phata by 2036.
Phase II would add a 23-km Ambad–Nashik Airport corridor by 2046 at an estimated cost of ₹5,750 crore.
