Uttarakhand CEO urges voters not to panic over SIR notices
Sometimes adults worry about their name in the list of people allowed to vote.
Election officials check this voting list to make sure it is correct.
When they see a mistake, they send a notice to the voter.
Many voters got worried when these notices arrived.
A top election officer named B V R C Purushottam told everyone not to panic.
He explained that getting a notice is a normal part of checking the list.
If a name or address has an error, voters can fix it by giving some documents to a local election helper called a booth level officer.
Even the officer himself got a notice about his name and fixed it.
So the notices are nothing to be scared about—they help keep the voting list correct.
Uttarakhand Chief Electoral Officer B V R C Purushottam asked voters not to panic over notices issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He said notices about discrepancies in names, addresses or other particulars are a routine process of the Election Commission.
Voters can get errors in their electoral records corrected by submitting the prescribed documents to their booth level officer (BLO).
Purushottam himself received a notice over a discrepancy in his name and has already submitted the required documents.
Of the 24.30 lakh notices issued under the SIR, around 20.27 lakh have been delivered to voters so far.
