PM Narendra Modi dedicates POWERGRID transmission projects in Andhra Pradesh
India's Prime Minister visited the state of Andhra Pradesh to celebrate new electricity projects.
These projects are like giant power highways that carry electricity made from wind and sunlight.
Two of the projects are finished, and the Prime Minister officially opened them.
He also placed a special foundation stone to start work on a third project.
The projects carry clean energy from places called Kurnool and Ananthapuram.
That clean energy travels across India so homes and cities can use it.
The projects cost thousands of crores of rupees to build.
India wants to get 500 gigawatts of its power from clean sources by the year 2030.
The company that runs the power lines, POWERGRID, keeps them working more than 99.80% of the time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated two POWERGRID transmission projects and laid the foundation stone for one project in Andhra Pradesh.
The Kurnool wind/solar energy zone transmission system (part-A & B) was dedicated, developed at an investment of approximately ₹3,547 crore.
A transmission system for the solar energy zone in Ananthpuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW) was also dedicated, at roughly ₹823 crore.
The foundation stone was laid for the Kurnool-IV renewable energy zone (REZ) integration transmission system, phase-I (4.5 GW), at an investment of about ₹5,550 crore.
The projects support India's target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030; POWERGRID operates 291 substations and 1,86,595 ckm of lines as of June 30, 2026.
