Mumbai Marks 80 Years of Independence with Patriotic Events
India celebrates Independence Day every year on August 15 to remember the day the country became free.
This year, in 2026, India marks 80 years of freedom, and the city of Mumbai has planned many special events.
There will be a three-day patriotic film festival where people can watch movies and documentaries about India for free.
Special ceremonies will say thank you to the families of 80 brave soldiers who gave their lives for the country.
Each family will receive money and gifts to show appreciation.
Thousands of students will hold signs and stand together in a very long human chain across the city.
A famous university, IIT Bombay, will also hold its own celebration with a special guest.
Big buildings and the airport will be lit up in the colours of the Indian flag.
People will take part in parades, cycle rides, singing and cultural shows.

Mumbai is celebrating India's 80th Independence Day on August 15, with events from August 14 through the following weekend, including film festivals, cultural programmes, rallies and tributes to martyrs.
The NFDC-NMIC 'Har Ghar Tiranga: The Patriotic Film Festival 2026' runs August 14-16 at Peddar Road with free entry, followed by a screening of the Oscar-nominated Lagaan (2001) on August 18.
The Shanmukhananda Sabha, SIES and Indian Army will honour families of 80 fallen defence personnel on August 15, with each family receiving Rs 2 lakh, a memento and utility items worth around Rs 50,000.
Around 4,300 students will form a 5.55-km human chain from Matunga through Sion to King's Circle carrying placards promoting unity, diversity, secularism and gender equality.
IIT Bombay will hold a ceremony with chief guest Suhas Mehta, while landmarks including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will be illuminated in national colours.
