On a Saturday, the city of Mumbai celebrated India's 80th Independence Day.

Across the city, people held flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes and public activities.

This year, the National Song 'Vande Mataram' was given a special place in the celebrations, which also marked 150 years of the song.

At the Western Railway headquarters, General Manager Ramashray Pandey raised the National Flag and inspected the Railway Protection Force parade.

The Western Railway Women's Welfare Organisation also donated useful items, like wheelchairs, water purifiers and refrigerators, to a building under Jagjivan Ram Hospital that houses railway employees and their families receiving treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital.

At IIT Bombay, the flag was raised and students performed cultural shows, while four employees who had worked there for 40 years received special awards.

At the airport, the community performed music and shows along with a CISF showcase.

At Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals, 440 people got vaccinated in a special drive.

Student teachers at the Haj Committee of India also acted out stories of freedom fighters and sang patriotic songs.

Everyone came together to celebrate national unity and India's cultural diversity.
