Navi Mumbai Voter Digitisation Lags With 4.21 Lakh Records Pending

In a city in India called Navi Mumbai, the people who run elections keep a big list of everyone who is allowed to vote.

This year, they are putting all those names into computers, which is a job called digitisation.

Right now, the job is only a little more than halfway done.

More than four lakh people — that is more than 400,000 people — still have their records waiting to be put onto computers.

All the work has to be finished by August 17, so time is running out.

To help, workers have already given almost every voter a special form to fill in.

If your name is not on the old list from 2002, you can still fill in your own details, sign the form, and give it to a helper called a BLO.

Special help camps have been set up at 179 places on Saturdays and Sundays.

The city's chief officer is asking local leaders to remind people to finish their forms on time.

This matters because some voters were registered in more than one place, which caused confusion during elections.
