Mumbai Rainfall Crosses 2,000-mm Mark; More Showers Expected
Mumbai is a big city in India that gets lots of rain every year during the monsoon season.
On Tuesday morning, the rain became very heavy again.
The city's rainfall went past the 2,000-millimetre mark.
That is a huge amount of water.
Weather experts called this the revival of monsoon currents.
They told people to be careful because heavy rain could fall in some places.
They issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and nearby areas like Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
The alert will last until Thursday, August 13.
One weather station in Santacruz measured 2,020 millimetres of rain so far this season.
That is about 85 per cent of what the area usually gets during the whole rainy season.
Heavy monsoon rain returned to Mumbai, pushing suburban rainfall past the 2,000-mm mark on Tuesday morning.
The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
The yellow alert remains in effect until Thursday, August 13, with more showers expected on August 12.
Santacruz station has recorded 2,020 mm of rainfall since the monsoon began, about 85 per cent of the season's average.
Monthly rainfall figures cited are June 526.3 mm, July 919.9 mm, August 560.8 mm and September 383.5 mm.
