India’s Factories Cluster in Western and Southern Industrial Belts
Researchers made a map showing where large Indian manufacturing companies have factories.
They used annual reports from 568 companies in the BSE1000 index.
These reports listed around 4,387 factory locations.
Many factories are grouped in western and southern parts of India.
Important clusters appear around Gujarat, Mumbai and Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi NCR.
The ten busiest districts contain one-quarter of all the factories counted.
Maharashtra shows the same pattern, with factories concentrated in Pune, Thane and Raigad.
The map does not include every factory because it mainly covers large listed companies, and it often does not show how big each factory is or what it makes.
A map based on 2024–25 reports identified around 4,387 factory locations in India.
The analysis covered 568 manufacturing companies in the BSE1000 index.
Major industrial concentrations include Gujarat, the Mumbai–Pune Corridor, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi NCR.
The ten districts with the most factories account for 25% of all locations identified.
In Maharashtra, Pune, Thane and Raigad contain nearly half the factories recorded in the state, while Gondia and Latur reported none.
