Assam adds 8 co-districts, total rises to 47

The government of Assam in India is making a big change to how it works.

Right now, the state is split into big areas called districts, and each one has a main office called a district headquarters.

People who live far away often have to travel a long way to that office to get government help.

To fix this, the government is setting up smaller offices called co-districts in more places.

The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, just announced that eight new co-districts will be created.

With these new ones, Assam will have 47 co-districts in total.

This means more people can get services like certificates or other paperwork closer to their homes.

It is especially helpful for people in villages and hilly areas where travel is hard.

The government says this brings administration closer to the people and makes things easier for everyone.

The locations of the new co-districts have not been announced yet.
