President Murmu presents Sant Kabir handloom awards on National Handloom Day

On Friday, August 7, 2026, India celebrated a special day called National Handloom Day.

Handloom means cloth that is woven by hand.

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, gave out special prizes to some of the country's best weavers.

These prizes are called the Sant Kabir National Handloom Awards and the National Handloom Awards.

In total, 22 weavers got awards for making beautiful cloth and keeping old traditions alive.

The President said handloom is not just fabric — it is part of India's culture and history.

She also said weaving gives jobs to millions of people, especially in villages, and helps women become more independent.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, asked everyone in the country to use handloom products.

Every year on August 7, people remember the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, which told people to use things made in India.

The awards show how much the country values the hard work of the people who make this beautiful cloth.
