Delhi Metro starts Shivaji Stadium station work, links planned

Delhi Metro has started building a new underground station at Shivaji Stadium.

The station will be part of the Magenta Line.

A long underground walkway will connect it to Rajiv Chowk station.

The walkway will have moving paths called travelators to help people walk more easily.

Another shorter subway will connect the station to the Airport Express Line.

This could help office workers, students, visitors to Bangla Sahib Gurudwara and airport passengers.

The station must be built very deep because another railway line already runs above it.

Construction will involve many trucks, so workers plan to wash wheels, cover materials and clean nearby roads.

Rajiv Chowk connection: An 800-metre underground pedestrian subway with travelators is planned.
Airport Express connection: A separate 230-metre underground subway will connect the new station with the existing Shivaji Stadium Airport Express station.
Station depth: The diaphragm wall will extend to about 38 metres, roughly the height of a 12-storey building.
Construction scale: About 3,000 cubic metres of concrete and nearly 15,000 cubic metres of excavation are expected each month.
Central Vista Corridor: The 9.913-kilometre corridor will have nine underground stations.
