BMC Proposes ₹2,241-Crore Afcons Contract For Water Tunnel

The tunnel will run from Manori in Malad to Charkop Municipal Garden and Mahavir Nagar in Kandivali, with a diameter of 2.5 metres.
The project includes a 400 MLD capacity tunnel and pumping station, with initial phase handling 200 MLD.
The tunnel will be excavated 104–128 metres underground using two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd was the lowest bidder, quoting 1.82% below the BMC's estimated cost of ₹1,577 crore.
The project timeline is 45 months, with a 100-kW solar power system planned for the pumping station to reduce electricity consumption.
