ASR Haritha-Panchavati Programme Launches Village Biodiversity Groves

A new tree-planting programme has started in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

Collector T Nishanthi launched it in the Paderu forest division.

The programme will create special groups of five trees called Panchavati groves.

These groves are planned for village panchayats across the district.

The five trees include peepal, Indian gooseberry, medlar, bael and Sita Ashoka.

Officials say the trees can help protect nature and local plants and animals.

Panchayat secretaries received saplings to plant in suitable places.

Schools, students, women’s groups, young people and voluntary organisations are being asked to help care for them.
