Kalyan-Badlapur lines 52% complete; Borivali-Virar at 30%
Many people take trains in Mumbai, and the tracks are often very crowded.
To fix this, workers are building new train tracks.
One project is between Kalyan and Badlapur, where two new lines are being added.
It is about halfway done.
Another project is adding two lines between Borivali and Virar.
That one is about thirty percent done.
The new tracks will help more trains run, especially when people are going to work.
They will also give long-distance trains their own tracks, so local and long-distance trains do not get in each other's way.
The projects cost over three thousand crore rupees in total and should be finished between 2028 and 2029.
The Kalyan-Badlapur third and fourth lines on Central Railway reached 52% completion by July-end.
The Borivali-Virar fifth and sixth lines on Western Railway achieved 30% progress as of July-end.
Both projects are being executed by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) under MUTP 3-A.
The Rs 1,510-crore Kalyan-Badlapur project targets completion by 2028, while the Rs 2,184-crore Borivali-Virar project targets 2029.
The new lines aim to add capacity, improve peak-hour suburban train frequency, and separate local and long-distance services.
