Andhra CEO orders faster voter claim hearings under SIR

In the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, the people in charge of elections are working to make sure the voter list is correct.

A voter list is the official record of who is allowed to vote.

The chief election officer, Vivek Yadav, told his team to handle voter complaints and requests more quickly and carefully.

Many names were removed from the list, about 45 lakh people in total.

Some names were removed because people moved away, some because they passed away, and some because they were on the list more than once.

If someone was removed by mistake, they can fill out a form to be put back on the list.

Special days are planned in August when helpers will be at polling stations to assist people.

Helpers will also visit colleges to sign up young people aged 18 and 19 to vote.

The goal is to make sure every citizen who is allowed to vote can do so.
