MCD Flags Off 176 Electric Sanitation Vehicles in South Delhi
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi sent 176 electric vehicles to collect and move garbage in five South Delhi wards.
These vehicles include small vehicles for collecting waste from homes and larger vehicles for moving it.
The MCD said the number of primary collection vehicles in these wards will nearly triple.
Officials expect garbage collection to happen more often and cover more homes.
The wider project covers all 23 wards in Delhi’s South Zone.
It is designed to handle about 1,400 tonnes of waste each day.
The company running the project plans to use GPS, RFID tags and live monitoring to track the work.
It also plans to eventually use 550 electric four-wheelers and 226 electric three-wheelers.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi flagged off 176 electric sanitation vehicles for five South Delhi wards on Thursday, September 10.
The deployment includes 150 primary waste collection vehicles and 26 secondary vehicles such as refuse collectors, hook loaders, JCBs and Bobcats.
Vehicles were deployed in Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Green Park, Greater Kailash and Chittaranjan Park.
The MCD said primary collection vehicles in the five wards would increase from about 10 per ward to about 30 per ward.
South Delhi MSW Solutions said its wider South Zone project will cover 23 wards, handle about 1,400 tonnes of waste daily and eventually deploy 776 electric vehicles.
