Hungary’s Paks Nuclear Plant Nears Full Capacity by Wednesday

Hungary’s Paks nuclear plant had to reduce its electricity production because the Danube River became unusually low.

The river provides water used to cool the plant.

The plant was producing only a little more than one-tenth of its normal output earlier this month.

Water levels have since risen, and workers have carried out engineering work near the plant.

The plant restarted its third reactor late Saturday.

Four of its eight turbines were producing electricity on Sunday.

Officials say the plant could return to full production by Wednesday.

Temporary barges and a new riverbed sill helped keep enough water available while longer-term work continued.
