Central Railway Finds Deficiencies in 410 Mumbai Water Tanks
Central Railway checked water tanks used at stations, railway colonies, and workplaces in Mumbai.
The inspection found problems in 410 tanks.
Officials said 409 of those problems were fixed.
Many tanks have also been cleaned, but some cleaning work is still continuing.
Workers added covers and mesh to protect tank openings.
They repaired 26 leaks and faulty pipelines.
Tests of 349 water samples found no bacteria or E. coli contamination.
The railway said the water being supplied is currently safe to drink, while the findings show that regular maintenance is important.
A special inspection found deficiencies in 410 water tanks across Central Railway’s Mumbai Division.
Central Railway said 409 of the 410 deficiencies had been rectified after the inspection.
Of 2,913 tanks, 2,479 have been cleaned, while work continues on the remaining 434.
All 349 tested water samples were negative for bacteriological contamination and E. coli.
The railway also fixed 26 leakages and defective pipelines and began daily chlorine monitoring at 134 locations.
