Hindalco Commissions India’s First Superfine ATH Plant in Karnataka
Hindalco has opened a new plant in Belagavi, Karnataka.
The plant makes a material called Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate, or PPT ATH.
This material helps cables and other products resist fire.
It can reduce the spread of flames and smoke without releasing halogen acid gases.
The plant can produce 30,000 tonnes each year at first.
Hindalco says production can later increase to 60,000 tonnes.
The company expects the plant to supply nearly all current Indian demand for this material in safer cables.
The facility was developed with Hindalco’s own research and technology.
It uses renewable energy from biomass, solar and wind power.
Hindalco Industries commissioned India’s first Superfine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate plant in Belagavi, Karnataka.
The facility has an annual Phase 1 capacity of 30,000 tonnes and can expand to 60,000 tonnes.
PPT ATH is a halogen-free flame retardant used in cables, insulators, insulation, composites and paints.
Hindalco said the plant can meet almost all current domestic demand for safer-cable materials and reduce import dependence.
The facility uses in-house technology and operates entirely on renewable energy from biomass, solar and wind.
