Sweet Units Inspected, Mislabelled Foods Seized Ahead Of Festivals
Food safety officials checked 16 sweet-making factories before the festive season.
The inspections took place in seven districts.
They found some ingredients without required labels, such as the maker’s name, address and FSSAI license number.
Officials seized cocoa powder, khova, fennel powder and other ingredients.
They also found expired curd, chocolate flavour and rasgulla.
Some packaged foods, including banana chips and chakli masala, were misbranded.
Officials took samples of sweets and other foods to test them in laboratories.
The total value of the seized food was estimated at Rs 5.99 lakh.
The manufacturers may face legal action.
Officials inspected 16 sweet manufacturing units across seven districts on Monday before the festive season.
They seized cocoa powder, cracked cocoa beans, khova and fennel powder over missing mandatory labels.
Expired items, including curd, chocolate flavour and rasgulla, were also seized.
Samples of sweets, cooking oil, curd, lentils, khova, jalebi, tea powder and other products were collected for laboratory testing.
The seized food items were estimated to be worth Rs 5.99 lakh, with legal proceedings planned under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
