Hindalco's Baphlimali Mine Becomes India's First ASI-Certified Bauxite Operation
A big company called Hindalco owns a mine in India that digs up a rock called bauxite.
That rock is used to make aluminium, which is used in many everyday things.
The mine is called Baphlimali and it is in a place called Odisha.
A group called the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative checks if mining is done in a good and careful way.
They make sure companies take care of nature and treat workers fairly.
Baphlimali just passed all their checks and got a special certification.
It is the first bauxite mine in India to earn this award.
That means the mine is doing a great job of being clean, safe, and responsible.
Hindalco's Baphlimali bauxite mine in Odisha's Rayagada district is India's first bauxite mine to secure Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification.
Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL), a Hindalco subsidiary, received the certification under the ASI Performance Standard V3.1 (2023).
The certification covers mine planning, bauxite extraction, onsite crushing and conveyor transportation at the 8.5 million-tonne-capacity mine.
The achievement expands Hindalco's ASI-certified portfolio to 11 operations across mining, smelting and downstream manufacturing.
The certification followed an independent third-party audit by CETIZION Verifica under ASI's Witness Assessment process.
