Hindalco has opened a new factory in Karnataka, India.

The factory makes a special type of alumina.

Alumina is used in materials for important industrial products.

The plant can make 30,000 tonnes each year at first.

Much of its output will support safer wires and cables.

The factory is expected to meet nearly all of India’s current domestic demand for these materials.

Hindalco can later increase production to 60,000 tonnes each year.

The expansion will depend on how much the Indian market grows.
