IIT Gandhinagar's Rain2Resilience platform aims to make Ahmedabad flood-free
Ahmedabad is a big city in India that sometimes floods when it rains a lot.

The flood spots change every year, which makes it hard for the city to prepare.
Scientists at IIT Gandhinagar are building a clever computer system to help.
It is called Rain2Resilience.
The system puts together weather forecasts, maps of drains, pictures from satellites, and reports from people.
If a citizen sees water on a road, they can send a photo and location.
The computer can then figure out if it is just one puddle or a place that may flood again.
The system can also test ideas, like improving a drain or adding a pump, before the city spends money.
This helps the city act faster and keep people safe.
IIT Gandhinagar launched Rain2Resilience, an urban flood monitoring and decision-support platform for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, on July 31.
The platform combines rainfall forecasts, drainage and geospatial layers, satellite information, field evidence, and citizen reports into one system.
Heavy rain on July 23 flooded the Indraprastha Complex near Drive-in Road, leaving nearly 40 shops flooded for days.
The system features FloodAstra-GPU, a graphics processing unit-scaled flood modelling engine, and a 'Scenario Lab' for testing interventions.
The same flood-modelling approach was earlier demonstrated in Gurugram and is now being adapted for Ahmedabad.
