Gore launches integrated vent for electric-vehicle and energy-storage batteries
W. L. Gore & Associates introduced the GORE MultiVent Series at The Battery Show North America 2026 in Detroit.
The product is designed for lithium-ion battery packs used in electric vehicles and energy-storage systems.
It combines three functions in one device: balancing pressure, limiting moisture entry, and releasing gas if a battery undergoes thermal runaway.
The vent then reseals after releasing the gas.
Gore says the design gives battery-pack makers an alternative to using several separate components for those functions.
The technology builds on technology Gore acquired from Vernay Laboratories in 2026, along with Gore’s membrane expertise and Vernay’s valve technology.
The announcement does not say when the product will be available or describe any next steps.
W. L. Gore & Associates introduced its GORE Battery Vents – MultiVent Series at The Battery Show North America 2026.
The integrated vent is designed for lithium-ion battery packs in electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
It combines pressure equalization, moisture protection and gas evacuation during thermal runaway in one device.
The vent reseals after evacuating gas and uses one opening in the battery pack wall.
Gore said the product combines its membrane expertise with valve technology acquired from Vernay Laboratories in 2026.
