LineageOS 24.0 brings Android 17 to an initial set of devices

LineageOS, a community-built version of Android, has prepared version 24.0, based on Android 17, for an initial release.

The project says the update is ready, with builds first coming to a selection of devices and more expected later.

Devices with older Linux kernel versions 4.4 or 4.9 will remain limited to LineageOS 22.2, though the project says it will continue security support under its policy.

The update also brings security patches dated from August 2025 through October 2026 to versions 18.1 through 24.0, with patches for older versions where possible.

Built-in apps are being refreshed, including a new basic photo editor and a redesigned updater.

New browser-based tools can communicate with compatible devices during installation, but LineageOS still recommends its device-specific guides.

The project has also reviewed accessibility and expanded its documentation as it approaches its 10th anniversary on December 24, 2026.
