Google launches Fitbit Edge with health tracking and up to seven-day battery life

Google has introduced the Fitbit Edge, a new activity-tracking wristband.

It is designed to sit between basic fitness bands and smartwatches, and Google says its battery can last up to seven days.

Its Health Guardian tools use sensors and AI to track patterns and estimate changes in blood pressure and insulin-resistance trends.

The insulin-resistance estimate does not use an external continuous glucose monitor, and it is not described as a diagnosis.

The band also has sensors for electrocardiograms, skin temperature and pulse.

Google is extending Health Guardian tools to its Fitbit Air band as well.

Google has also agreed to work with period-tracking app Flo Health, with users’ consent, to study links between menstrual-cycle stages, physical performance and rest, and to support research on women’s health.
