TEMO brings bolt-on electric sailboat motors to the US

French marine motor maker TEMO is bringing its OUTPOD electric propulsion system to North America.

It is designed for sailboats and will be shown at the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, from October 15 to 18.

Unlike a conventional pod drive, the system bolts onto the transom without requiring a hole below the waterline.

The motor can be removed from its mount for storage or maintenance, and sailors can lift it out of the water while underway to reduce drag.

TEMO is offering two models, with different power and thrust levels, and says both work with removable batteries or compatible 48-volt battery banks.

The system can also use solar charging and generate power from the propeller while the boat is sailing.

The 1,000-watt version starts at $2,600, while the 3,100-watt model has a listed price of $5,400.
