ARMSX2 update adds Mali graphics driver support for more Android devices

ARMSX2, an Android app for emulating PlayStation 2 games, has added a custom graphics driver called MaliSX2 in version 2.8.3.

The driver is designed for devices with Arm Mali graphics chips, found in some older Pixels, Galaxy phones and MediaTek-powered devices.

Until now, custom drivers had mainly helped Android devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, which use Adreno graphics.

The new driver supports more Mali chips, including the G57, G68, G77 and G78.

The developers say Ace Combat 4 and Ace Combat 5 ran at full speed on a test device after being unplayable with its standard driver.

Results will vary by game and device, and the phone also needs a recent enough Mali system driver.

The update is available on GitHub, and the driver can be selected in ARMSX2’s GPU settings.
