Ring announces smart lock with hand-powered backup for dead batteries

Ring has announced a smart lock that can be opened in several ways, including with a PIN, fingerprint, app or Alexa.

If its battery dies, turning a dial on the outside generates power so someone can use the keypad or fingerprint reader.

This could help people get inside without carrying a spare key.

The lock is expected in early 2027, but details such as battery life and Matter support are still unknown.
