Melanie Walters becomes second contestant eliminated from Strictly

Melanie Walters has been eliminated from this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, becoming the second celebrity to leave the competition.

The 64-year-old Welsh actor is known for playing Gwen, Stacey’s mother, in the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey.

Walters and her professional partner, Aljaz Škorjanec, received 17 points for their Charleston and entered the dance-off against former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and his partner, Alexis Warr.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas chose to save Wright-Phillips, while Motsi Mabuse voted to save Walters.

Head judge Anton du Beke had the deciding vote and sent Wright-Phillips through.

Walters said she was sorry to leave and thanked her supporters and Škorjanec, who praised her hard work.

The remaining couples are due to perform routines inspired by well-known recording artists during next week’s Icons Week.
