Stephen King Helped Shape Major Changes to the New Carrie Series

Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode Carrie series is set in 2026 and is streaming on Prime Video.

It adapts Stephen King’s 1970 novella but makes major changes to the story.

Flanagan says King was closely involved before he agreed to make the show, and that some of the biggest changes came from King.

The series presents Carrie as one of several women with similar psychic powers, which it calls “the Shine.”

It also lets Carrie survive, unlike in the original story.

King and Flanagan supported these changes because they wanted to expand the story into a broader world.

Carrie’s survival also helps set up a larger story.
