Interscope Sues Summer Walker Over Record Deal, Seeks at Least $50 Million
Summer Walker and Interscope Records are in a legal dispute over her recording contract.
Walker signed a deal with Interscope and LVRN in 2017 and gave Interscope notice in August that she would end her work under the agreement.
She relied on California’s seven-year law, which allows people to leave some personal-services contracts after seven years.
A 1987 amendment lets record labels sue for damages when artists leave before completing album commitments.
Interscope says Walker’s contract required five albums and that recordings are still owed; the label claims the missing work could cost it at least $50 million.
The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, and the amount of any damages would be decided at trial.
Interscope says it hopes to resolve the dispute amicably, while Walker’s representatives had not responded to requests for comment.
