13 more villagers arrested after alleged attack on police in Waipet

Police arrested 13 more villagers in Waipet, a village in Adilabad district, on Tuesday over an alleged attack on officers.

The arrests bring the total number held in the case to 20 people, including village sarpanch Chikram Ramu.

Police say five personnel were injured while investigating a ganja smuggling case in Waipet on October 10.

Villagers allegedly threw stones, damaged a police vehicle and phones, and attacked officers with sticks.

Police also say the officers were held at the sarpanch’s house for a time, and that a phone and a police file were taken.

The case is registered under laws covering assault and damage to public property, following a complaint by an injured constable.

Seven people were arrested on Monday, and the remaining 13 on Tuesday.
