Andhra Pradesh earmarks 45 acres for INCOIS centre in Kakinada
Andhra Pradesh has set aside 45 acres on the Kakinada coast for a regional centre of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, or INCOIS.
The state’s Maritime Board signed an agreement with INCOIS, which comes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The centre is expected to cost ₹100 crore and serve nearly seven lakh people along the Andhra Pradesh coast.
INCOIS provides services such as fishing-zone information, ocean forecasts and tsunami early warnings.
The nearest existing INCOIS centre is in Hyderabad, so the new facility would bring these services closer to coastal communities.
The proposal was approved in September after Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish Kumar appealed for it in July.
The sources do not say when construction or operations will begin.
