Anduril develops modular interceptor missile family for US air defenses

Anduril is developing Steelfin, a family of interceptor missiles for US air defenses.

The company says the missiles are designed to counter different threats while helping the military avoid using its most expensive weapons against cheaper targets.

Steelfin uses a shared design, with different first-stage boosters and modular equipment to suit different missions.

Anduril says this approach could make the missiles cheaper and easier to produce in large numbers, but it has not given prices.

The company plans to make several thousand variants a year in the near term, depending on production readiness and demand.

Steelfin is designed to work with launch systems and fire-control software already used by US forces.

Anduril has completed ballistic testing and plans to begin flight tests in 2027; those tests will help show whether the missiles can perform reliably.
