All nine Nuriho rideshare satellites establish contact
South Korea’s Nuriho rocket launched from the Naro Space Center in Goheung on October 7.
Nine of the 10 rideshare satellites aboard were deployed, and the country’s space agency and aerospace research institute confirmed that all nine made contact.
Eight connected on launch day, while DaejeonSat-1 established two-way contact the following day.
The satellites had different levels of contact: some sent signals or data, and some were still trying to establish two-way communication.
Their teams completed basic checks of satellite status.
The satellites will now undergo early operations to check that their systems work properly before starting their missions.
The space agency said contact was achieved sooner than after Nuriho’s fourth launch, crediting more accurate placement in orbit and more precise satellite location information.
South Korea’s space agency and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute confirmed that all nine rideshare satellites launched aboard the fifth Nuri rocket had made contact.
Eight satellites established contact on launch day, October 7, and DaejeonSat-1 achieved two-way contact the following day.
Three satellites had received beacon signals and downlinked data, while attempts to establish uplinks were under way.
The agencies said the satellites completed basic status checks and would move into initial operations before beginning their missions.
The agency chief said contact was achieved faster than during Nuri’s fourth launch, citing more accurate placement in orbit and satellite location information.
- Who
- The Korea Aerospace Administration and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute confirmed contact with the nine rideshare satellites.
- What
- All nine satellites established contact with ground operators. Some had achieved two-way contact; others had received beacon signals and downlinked data.
- When
- The confirmation was announced on October 13, 2026. The satellites launched on October 7.
- Where
- The Nuri rocket launched from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Korea.
