Jeonju Foundation to release album blending AI and Korean traditional music

The Jeonju Culture Foundation in South Korea will release an album of six pieces combining artificial intelligence and gugak, or traditional Korean music, on October 15.

The tracks were chosen from winners of a composition contest held in 2024 and 2025.

The contest began in 2024 to explore how traditional culture could meet modern technology.

Entries increased from 116 in 2024 to 312 in 2025 and 331 in 2026.

Experts and an online public audience of about 1,700 people took part in selecting the winners.

The album, titled “Dive to Fusion,” will be available on services including Melon, Genie and YouTube Music.

The foundation says it supported mixing, mastering, rearranging and rerecording so the winning pieces could be distributed beyond the contest.

It also plans a live video and further promotion for one track, “Yuhuiyo,” which draws on Jeonju’s play culture.
