Six consortia bid to build Madrid Metro Line 11 extension
Six construction consortia have bid to build a new section of Madrid Metro Line 11, running from Mar de Cristal to Valdebebas Norte.
The underground route will cover nearly eight kilometres and add four stations.
The Madrid regional government has split the work into two contracts, with a combined budget of €880 million.
The first section, from Mar de Cristal to Hospital Isabel Zendal, is budgeted at €580 million and is scheduled to take 39 months.
The second, from the hospital to Valdebebas Norte, is budgeted at €300 million and is scheduled to take 32 months.
This is part of a wider plan to extend Line 11 into a 33-kilometre diagonal route across Madrid; work is already under way on the section between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal.
The bids will now go through the contract-award process, though no decision date is given.
