Turkey raises Iller Bank’s capital to 250 billion lira

Turkey has raised Iller Bank’s stated capital from 120 billion to 250 billion lira by presidential decision.

The bank works with municipalities and provincial administrations across Turkey.

It helps finance local projects, including drinking water, sewage and other urban infrastructure, and provides technical support.

The increase creates a larger capital base, but it does not mean 250 billion lira has been deposited in cash or will be lent to municipalities.

The decision does not specify new loans, grants or how much money any municipality will receive.

The bank’s capital can be built from several sources, including deductions from local governments’ shares of national tax revenue and part of its annual profit.

How much additional financing becomes available will depend on the bank’s resources and future lending decisions.
