Turkish defense firms bar foreign electric cars from campuses
TEI chief executive Mahmut Akşit said several major Turkish defense firms have barred foreign electric cars from their campuses.
He named Aselsan, Roketsan, Havelsan and TEI, which makes engines for domestic platforms.
Akşit said electric and autonomous vehicles can carry cameras, sensors and software that may map an area.
He argued that security risks arise when a vehicle’s systems are controlled by someone outside the company.
The firms allow domestically made vehicles, he said, because they control their software and systems.
TEI is part of Turkish Aerospace Industries, which is developing the Kaan fifth-generation jet.
Akşit said his comments were his personal assessment and called for greater public awareness of digital technology risks.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
Here in Türkiye, we, at Aselsan, Roketsan, Havelsan, and TEI, no longer allow foreign electric cars onto our campuses.
That’s because they have so many sensors, cameras and other equipment that they can map out the entire area, and we're not the ones in control of them,
because we control both the software and the systems themselves.
