Alkerton and Sintayehu named U Sports cross-country athletes of the week
Alyshia Alkerton of the University of Windsor and Lalem Sintayehu of St. Francis Xavier University were named Under Armour Athletes of the Week.
Alkerton won the women’s 5K at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in Indiana on Oct.
2, finishing in 17:04.
Her Windsor teammate Samara Quanz placed second, and the pair helped Windsor finish third as a team.
Alkerton did not race for Windsor’s championship team last year because university transfer rules made her ineligible, but she is competing this season.
Sintayehu, originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is in his first year of U Sports eligibility and has won two straight individual titles, including an 8K in 24:56.
The weekly recognition is part of a series leading up to the U Sports Cross Country Championships in Hamilton on Nov.

Alkerton and her team are also looking ahead to the Ontario university championships, which Windsor is hosting this season.
