Russia and US hold talks on diesel fuel supplies to American market

Russia and the United States are discussing diesel supplies for the American market, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.

After a phone call on October 9, US President Donald Trump said Russia had agreed to supply more than 300,000 tonnes to US and global markets, with further shipments planned.

Trump said 500,000 tonnes would follow in November and one million tonnes after that, while Russia could later export more depending on the situation.

Novak said Russia’s domestic fuel needs remain the priority and that the country’s market is fully supplied.

He said Russia could raise diesel exports to 3.5 million tonnes a month by the end of 2026, helping supply the US and ease disruption linked to the Strait of Hormuz.

Talks between energy officials and companies are under way, and the US Treasury temporarily eased sanctions to allow the deal.
