Yuanta forecasts KOSPI could reach 10,000 in 2027

Yuanta Securities has forecast where South Korea’s stock markets could stand in 2027.

Its base case puts the KOSPI, which tracks large companies, at up to 10,000 and the KOSDAQ at up to 1,200.

In a more optimistic scenario, the targets rise to 12,000 for the KOSPI and 1,550 for the KOSDAQ; in a pessimistic scenario, they fall to 6,000 and 850.

The firm based its KOSPI estimate on expected company profits and a valuation measure, and used the KOSDAQ’s historical relationship with the KOSPI for its estimate.

It expects high inflation, tight policy and high interest rates to ease in the first half of 2027.

The forecast comes as investors worry about high borrowing costs and the effects of the semiconductor cycle, risks that could affect market performance.

Yuanta says a KOSPI level near 6,000 could hold unless a major crisis develops, and points to market normalization and greater investment as possible support for the KOSDAQ.

What people are saying

If it does not spread into a systemic risk on the level of the 1997 East Asian financial crisis, the 2000 dot-com bubble collapse or the 2008 US financial crisis, downside support near the KOSPI 6,000 level remains valid even in the worst case.

We give weight to the possibility that the risks of high inflation, tight monetary policy and high interest rates will turn downward, or peak, in the first half of 2027.
