Antonelli says Mercedes upgrade is improving as Russell reports setback
Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell had different experiences in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.
Antonelli said the team had identified problems with an upgrade package first introduced in Sepang and that his car felt better.
He qualified fourth, behind Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Antonelli leads Russell by 89 points in the championship.
Russell said his car felt worse than it had the day before, after he crashed in the sprint race.
He was sixth quickest in the final qualifying session but is due to start Sunday’s race from the back because of an engine penalty.
Mercedes said it would use the race to gather more information about how the upgrade performs.

Antonelli holds an 89-point advantage over Russell in the championship.
