Ferguson praises 15-year-old Sooryavanshi ahead of India’s New Zealand T20Is

India’s 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to play New Zealand in a five-match T20 international series beginning October 22.

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson praised him after facing him in the Indian Premier League and said he is looking forward to bowling to him.

Sooryavanshi made his T20 international debut against England in July and has scored 246 runs in eight matches, including two half-centuries.

He became the youngest batter to score a half-century in men’s T20 internationals, reaching 50 in 19 balls against Zimbabwe.

His selection for the New Zealand tour gives him another chance to build on his early international performances after missing India’s playing XI for the first T20 against West Indies earlier this month.

The series will test him in unfamiliar conditions, where the source says pace and bounce could pose a different challenge.

The tour also includes five one-day internationals and two Tests, but the immediate test for Sooryavanshi is the T20 series.
