Merauke plans irrigation project for up to 750,000 hectares
The plan would use water from the Maro and Kumbe river basins to supply five irrigation areas in Merauke.
Officials say the project could provide enough water for up to 750,000 hectares of farmland.
It could also help some farms grow crops three times a year instead of once or twice.
The project is still being planned, and its design includes a loan from South Korea.
