India opposition leaders vow to continue protest over voter roll review

Opposition leaders in India’s INDIA bloc met with student groups and civil society representatives at Rahul Gandhi’s home in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on opposing a voter roll review called SIR and planning the movement’s next steps.

The opposition says the review is linked to “vote theft” and is demanding that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign.

Rahul Gandhi said the protest would continue and that the group would keep fighting until it reached its goal.

Some leaders said farmers and trade unions could join the movement, but gave no date or details.

They also said they hoped the Supreme Court would play a role, while insisting political protest would continue.

The next steps have not been announced, and Gandhi said the strategy would remain a surprise.

The dispute is continuing through political protest and demands for official action.
