Renault, Stellantis and Volkswagen assign new models to Spanish plants

Renault, Stellantis and Volkswagen have assigned new models to factories in Spain, where their plants make nearly 1.7 million vehicles combined.

The plans were confirmed at the Paris International Motor Show as the car industry shifts towards electric vehicles and faces growing competition from Chinese brands.

Renault assigned five models: two electric and one hybrid for its Palencia plant, and two hybrids for Valladolid.

Volkswagen confirmed four electric models for its Spanish operations.

Stellantis plans a new family of electric vehicles and Leapmotor models at Spanish factories.

Under a deal with Leapmotor, the Madrid plant is expected to make two electric models from 2028, while two Leapmotor models and an Opel based on the Leapmotor B10 are planned for Zaragoza.

The assignments offer work for the plants in the coming years, although Renault’s chief executive said competition from low-priced Chinese hybrids raised concerns about the future of models made in Valladolid.

We will make the K9 in Turkey for the local market and some neighbouring countries and the Middle East, especially for the Fiat brand, while the models based on the K9 made in Vigo will be for the European market; they are different things
