APD head urges business leaders to help Spain compete amid global disruption
Laura González Molero, who leads Spain’s Association for the Progress of Management and the insurer DKV in Spain, says business leaders should take a greater role in helping society navigate change.
The association represents nearly 3,000 companies across different sectors.
She says competition is changing as industries overlap and technology reshapes work, shopping and communication.
Companies have also faced the Covid crisis, supply problems and an energy crisis.
González Molero argues that competitiveness depends not only on controlling costs, but also on having skilled workers, shared goals and the right tools.
She says business leaders should help create projects that improve companies and society.
APD plans to present a detailed set of proposals at its congress on 29 October.
González Molero also says the next government, due to form from December, should pursue long-term agreements on competitiveness.

González Molero said competition now crosses traditional industry boundaries and requires businesses to work together.

What people are saying
In a disordered world, executives are the new role models
We have an opportunity and, I would say more, a responsibility to become some of the role models society needs
The costs are of course important, but competitiveness is no longer just, or even close to just, having costs under control
